A rooftop array on a commercial building produces two things: electricity, and a data trail someone will eventually need to explain. Who used the generation, who paid for it and whose carbon figures it reduces all depend on that trail. The NZC Portal team has published a short video on how NZC Portal and NZC Solar fit together, and on-site solar has its own place in that picture.
Where solar sits today
The NZC Solar app is live now. It brings generation monitoring, tenant allocation, billing and carbon reporting together in one workflow for commercial PV, so a kilowatt-hour can be followed from the meter to the tenant invoice and on into the carbon report.
How it connects to NZC Portal
NZC Portal is the building record for the wider portfolio. Its Energy Policy, EPC & MEES, ESOS and SECR apps are in early access, the Landlord Net Zero module goes live in the new year, and a module for occupiers follows in 2027. PV generation tracking is being integrated into the Portal, so that generation can sit alongside each asset's EPC and compliance record rather than in a separate system. In the meantime, the Solar app is where your generation data lives.
Why one record matters for solar
Solar data rarely stays with one team. Asset managers want it for EPC and capex conversations, sustainability teams for carbon reporting, and finance teams for tenant recharges. When each keeps its own copy, the figures drift apart. Holding generation, allocation and billing together, and linking them to the building record, means everyone works from the same numbers.
