DESIGN & COMPLIANCE

Solar designed to MCS and the UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard.

We design microgeneration installs to meet MCS design requirements and the UK NZCBS v1 (March 2026) — so on-site generation is right-sized, compliant, and contributes to your building's net zero pathway.

What it is

Technical microgeneration design and compliance for commercial rooftop and ground-mount PV. Every design follows MCS standards and is sized for operational performance and self-consumption — matching generation to half-hourly load profiles, not just available roof area, so kWh stay on site and displace expensive imported electricity.

We align sizing and metering with the UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard v1 (March 2026) so on-site generation contributes meaningfully to your NZCBS operational energy target, fossil fuel free check, and whole-life carbon performance — with monitoring baked in from day one so the system delivers what the design promised.

MCS design checklist

Every NZC Solar design covers the core MCS requirements for compliant, finance-ready installations:

  • Site survey and shading analysis using satellite and on-site data.
  • Structural assessment of roof load capacity and mounting system selection.
  • PV module and inverter specification matched to site conditions and budget.
  • Electrical design including DC/AC sizing, cable routing, and earthing.
  • Grid connection application and G99 / G100 compliance documentation.
  • Generation forecast using PVGIS or equivalent, validated against actual irradiance.
  • MCS-compliant handover pack for installer, funder, and warranty registration.

How solar design supports your wider compliance

MEES & EPC

On-site generation improves operational energy ratings and EPC scores — helping landlords meet current MEES thresholds and future-proof against tightening standards.

Scope 2 reduction

Right-sized solar reduces grid electricity consumption and verified Scope 2 emissions — directly supporting SECR, GHG Protocol, and investor disclosure targets.

Net zero pathway

NZCBS-aligned design ensures on-site renewables count toward the NZC Aligned Building claim — with generation forecasts and metering plans ready for verification.

Important note on gas heating

Solar PV addresses your electricity demand and Scope 2 emissions. If your building still relies on gas heating, that remains a significant source of Scope 1 carbon and a barrier to NZCBS "fossil fuel free" status. NZC Consultants can assess your heat decarbonisation options — from heat pumps to network heat — as part of a wider net zero strategy.
