How to identify underperforming PV assets

March 2026·4 min read

Underperformance rarely announces itself. It looks like a small drop in monthly export, or a single inverter quietly offline. A short briefing on the patterns to watch for.

The four patterns that hide losses

  • Single-string failure on a multi-string inverter — generation drops but the system still reports 'online'
  • Gradual soiling — losses compound through the summer and are easy to miss month-on-month
  • Shading from new neighbouring development — slow, seasonal, and not in the original yield model
  • Inverter clipping at unexpected times — design-stage assumptions diverging from real conditions

Monitoring applies yield-modelled, weather-normalised alerts to catch each of these before they accumulate into a meaningful revenue loss.
