Tenant solar billing: what landlords need to track

June 2026·4 min read

Behind-the-meter PPAs and tenant recharges only work if the underlying metering, allocation and unit-rate logic is right. A short briefing on what to set up before the first invoice goes out.

The five things every tenant solar bill depends on

  • Generation metering at the inverter or generator MPAN
  • Sub-metering at every tenant demise consuming solar
  • A defined allocation rule for landlord-retained vs tenant-consumed kWh
  • A PPA unit rate (and indexation profile) per tenant
  • A reconciliation cycle that matches the lease and PPA terms

Most disputes at month-end come from one of these being missing or inconsistent across sites.

Where the platform helps

Billing & Export converts half-hourly data into auditable tenant invoices and PPA statements with full back-up. Landlord, common-parts and demise allocations are applied to the same metered source — so the carbon and financial outputs reconcile.
